Luxury apartments housed within Battersea Power Station itself are going on sale in May.

The 254 properties, expected to fetch up to £30m, will be located within the existing facades of the eastern and western flanks of the Grade II* listed building.

There will also be flats on top of the central boiler house, which will frame a roof-top garden in the sky.

Londoners are being given priority to buy one of the properties at a launch day taking place in the capital on May 1.

Battersea Power Station Development Company (BPSDC) said hosting the launch solely in London will attract more owner-occupiers.

The flats range from studio apartments to luxury five bedroom penthouses, with sweeping views of the River Thames and central London.

It is not yet known how much they are being sold for, but the first phase of properties ranged in price from £338,000 for a studio to town houses selling for up to £3m.

Rob Tincknell, chief executive officer of BPSDC, said: "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own one of a relatively small number of fantastic homes being created in the iconic Power Station itself.

"We are proud to be launching these new homes in London only, and this decision is part of a wider strategy to create a product well-suited for owner occupiers and people who will help us create a real and lasting community here in Battersea."

The development will include office space for 5,000 people, 200 shops as well as a performance venue.

Prices for the new homes will be released in April.
