For people living in Wandsworth The Northcote is something of an institution.

It was the first place I wandered into when I was first exploring watering holes in the Clapham Junction area.

Wandsworth Times:

When out with a friend I decided to pop back in and sample the menu.

The Northcote sits in the heart of Northcote Road, a quick five minute walk from Clapham Junction station.

It is perhaps one of the busiest in the area, but the bustling atmosphere is what makes it stand out.

The bar is packed as we walked in and it looked like securing a table might be tricky.

Wandsworth Times:

A kind waitress managed to find us a booth near the back in the dining area, which is filled with people enjoying after work drinks.

We are recommended to try a bottle of Quercus Pinot Bianco, a smooth and full-bodied white.

There is a daily menu, as well as a variety of regularly changing specials, featuring pub-grub with a modern twist.

I opted for aubergine, tomato and feta salad from the specials board, which is fresh and light.

My friend's chicken liver parfait comes served with huge slabs of toasted brioche and chutney.

For the main course I sampled a grilled tuna steak, which came with courgette, a boiled egg and cherry tomato salad.

The fish was cooked rare, how I prefer it, and the salad was the perfect compliment.

My friend went for the carnivore equivalent and tucked into the sirloin steak.

It came with tomato, onion rings, huge chips and bernaise sauce which was all a bit too much for her to finish.

Wandsworth Times:

The pub has everything to keep the most fussiest of diners happy, with regular quiz events, sports screenings and wine tastings taking place.

Just make sure you get there before the mad rush to secure a table and you are in for an enjoyable evening.
