Businesses have turned a dangerous drinking game on its head by nominating each other to do charitable acts.

Restaurant Harrison's, in Bedford Hill, and Chadwicks Butchers, Balham High Road, Balham, are the latest businesses to take part in the Rak Nomination craze, standing for random act of kindness.

The original Nek Nomination game involves drinkers carrying out extreme challenges while downing alcohol, posting the footage online and nominating a friend to do the same.

Wimbledon business Samuel Estates, inspired by an idea originating in South Africa, put a positive spin on the concept, getting businesses to video themselves doing something for charity instead.

Staff at the estate agents donated money and clothes to Faith in Action, Merton, a homelessness project.

They went onto nominate Harrison's and Chadwicks Butchers to take on the challenge, with a two week time limit to complete the task.

On Thursday Chadwicks Butchers took their left over organic bones to Epsom Canine Rescue, in Reigate.

Staff spent a day at the rescue centre, handing out blankets, old towels and dog toys to the dogs.

Chadwicks went on to nominate James of Shepperton Butchers, Middlesex, and Owtons Butchers in Southampton.

Restaurateur Sam Harrison cooked a pasta dish for 80 homeless people in Spires, Tooting Bec Gardens, Tooting.

Volunteers provide lunch every Tuesday for homeless people staying at the centre.

Mr Harrison said: "I think all businesses have a responsibility to the community and for us our community is in South West London.

"Spires is based in Tooting Bec, a stones throw from where we are. It is really nice to give something back to the local area.

"It's a really nice way of quite quickly getting quite a few businesses and people involved with local charities."

Mr Harrison has nominated spa Independent Mind Body Soul, in Balham High Road, Balham, to take on the next charitable act.

It is hoped the concept will spread across South West London with more businesses getting involved.
