Travellers were given a sneak peak at the future of their commute when a model of a new train went on show.

First Capital Connect brought a 2m long model of one of its new trains that are due to be introduced on the Thameslink route from 2016 to Sutton station.

The new trains will replace the existing 27-year-old fleet and are designed to be more spacious, energy efficicient and comfortable.

Staff from First Capital Connect were on hand to take questions from members of the public while the model was on display.

First Capital Connect managing director David Statham said: "Our Thameslink services are some of the most crowded in Britain and this new fleet will, from 2016, provide more spacious trains which passengers desperately need.

"We want passengers to see what they will be travelling in and hear how the new fleet will transform their journeys."
