Park-goers were greeted by a mountain of rubbish in Tooting Common this morning.
The large pile of rubbish was fly-tipped in Dr Johnson Avenue which runs through the common.
In September last year several tonnes of rubbish were dumped in Tooting Common and fire fighters were called out to extinguish a blaze when the rubbish, in Bedford Woods, caught fire.
Richard Glassborow, chairman of Tooting Commons Management Advisory Committee, said: "I think we have to stop calling this fly tipping, it makes it sound like a minor demeanour. Industrial environmental crime is what it is and it should be dealt with as a very serious offence."
A council spokesman said: “The rubbish is being sifted to see if there is any evidence we can use to trace its origin. The site will then be cleared.
“Sadly this is not the first time Tooting Common has been targeted and we have been successful in tracking down and prosecuting some of those responsible.
