Wandsworth Council has launched the first phase of a borough wide project to provide free Wi-Fi to residents.
Town centres Putney, Balham, Wandsworth, the Clapham Junction part of Battersea and Tooting now have access with more of the borough going live later this year.
It is part of the council’s Wandsworth Connected campaign to make it easier for residents and businesses to access council services online, which entitles registered users access for half an hour with the option to extend for £5 a day.
Website wandsworth.gov.uk and Locallife Wandsworth are free for any length of time, without the need to register.
Leader of the council, Councillor Ravi Govindia said: “All our residents - even those without internet access at home - can find out about training and employment opportunities and access our Workmatch jobs brokerage scheme".
The scheme, which is being delivered by Arqiva will earn the council 20 per cent of any income generated in addition to the half a million paid by the technology company for the use of the council’s lampposts.
To access the network look for WANDSWORTH_FREE in your list of available Wi-Fi networks.
