A 16-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the stabbing of a 17-year-old in a William Hill betting shop.

The teenager was arrested today, also on suspicion of GBH, after the incident on Tuesday at 8.30pm, in Mitcham Road.

The 17-year-old victim was taken to hospital where he is still being treated for stab injuries. He is in a stable condition but his injuries are potentially life changing.

Police believe the victim was targeted by a group of males who attacked him as he entered the William Hill betting shop.

Officers from Trident, the Metropolitan Police force’s gang crime command, which is reposnsible for tackling gang violence and the prevention and investigation of all shootings in London.

A spokesman for William Hill said: "The incident involved a member of the public who ran into our shop. We are assisting police as much as possible and have provided them with cctv footage."
