A school is celebrating becoming the first of its kind to gain an outstanding Ofsted report.

Gatton Primary achieved top marks in all five areas following their inspections on February 26 and 27.

They are the only the Muslim VA school in the country to have achieved the rating.

The report, released on March 13, heaped praise on the Tooting-based school for the behaviour of its children and the ability of its staff.

They were measured on the achievement of pupils, leadership and management, and the governance of the school.

They were also judged on the behaviour and safety of pupils, and the quality of teaching.

Muslim VA schools are like any other primary, teaching the same subjects from the same curriculum.

The only difference is they have a Muslim ethos, meaning they are adapted slightly for children of Islamic faith.

In 2009 they received a ‘good’ rating in four areas, and received only a ‘satisfactory’ for teaching.

They have now jumped to the top of the class, becoming one of only 17 per cent of primary’s in the country to have gained an ‘outstanding’ rating.

Ms Rifat Batool, headteacher, said: "We have been striving to achieve the highest grade for the past few years.

"I believe in delivering high quality learning experiences as well as developing pupils who are well grounded in strong moral values.

"It is to this end that the whole school community has been striving to deliver the best all day, every day.

"Everybody has played their part very well, from the staff to the children, parents and governors, and without them we wouldn’t be where we are."

Gatton Primary is based on Broadwater Road in Tooting.

They teach 420 pupils between the ages of four and 11.

Hillbrook Primary and Sheringdale Primary schools are also celebrating receiving outstanding Ofsted reports, continuing Wandsworth Borough's excellent track record at both primary and secondary school levels.
