Smog to stay in south London for one more day before weather changes

Wandsworth Guardian: Smog: a view over south London yesterday Smog: a view over south London yesterday

Air pollution in southwest London has reached high levels in the past 24 hours and is expected to remain high until tomorrow.

Vulnerable people with health problems have been warned to take particular care because of the smog - which has been caused by local emissions and dust flown in from the Sahara.

The elderly and people with lung or heart disease are among those warned against exercising outside in the affected areas.

Defra (the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs) recorded air pollution in London as in the "high" category - seven out of 10.

Kay Boycott, chief executive of Asthma UK, said people with asthma who find that air pollution makes their condition worse could be at an increased risk of an attack.

High pollution levels are expected to be recorded again today but then clear tomorrow (Friday) as winds change direction.

When the Beddington incineratror the councillors and politicans bulldozed through starts to belch out its nanoparticule, the quality of our smog will be improved no end.

If we are seeing dangerously high levels of air pollution in early April, how can anyone with any sense of responsibility vote in favour of a waste incinerator in our area? Everyone accepts that the incinerator will increase air pollution and add a deadly cocktail to the mix. Only a fool would wish to impose this on our community. Those fools are our well paid, elected politicians!

With an ever increasing population in this country, more people = more problems so instead of nick Clegg telling lies about the Ukip party ane the EU we should stop the non stop population increase or just vote out the clowns of the tory Labour and Liberals now we could have a celebration if loads of them got turfed out next time round
