A man from Cobham was killed after being hit by a train at Teddington station on Easter Monday.

British Transport Police (BTP) and paramedics attended on the afternoon of Monday, March 21, where the 65-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

A BTP spokesman confirmed the death was not being treated as suspicious.

He said: “We got called at about 12.25pm to reports of a person being struck by a train at Teddington.

“Officers attended, alongside paramedics, and established a man was struck and killed by a train at the station.

“BTP will assist in compilation of the report for the coroner.”

The man was hit at about 12.20pm by the 11.42pm London Waterloo to Shepperton service, which stops at Teddington.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called at 12.26pm yesterday to reports of a person under a train at Teddington station.

“We sent one ambulance crew, members of the Hazardous Area Response Team, one single responder by car, an ambulance officer and London's air ambulance to the scene.

“Sadly the patient was dead at the scene.”

Witnesses reported seeing the air ambulance helicopter land in nearby Bushy Park while traffic through the park was halted.

The incident caused major disruptions to train services and the surrounding routes as two passenger trains remained stationary off-platform.

A South West Trains-Network Rail Alliance spokesman said: “Our first thoughts are with the family of the person involved. The incident involved the 11.42 London Waterloo to Shepperton service.

“As a result, services were not able to run between New Malden and Strawberry Hill.

“Some services were diverted to Surbiton/Hampton Court/Chessington South and a replacement bus service ran between Twickenham and Shepperton.

“The lines reopened at about 2pm and services were returned to normal as quickly as possible.”
