A murder investigation has been launched after a man was killed in a quiet, leafy suburb.

Police were called out at 8.15pm last night to a house in Huntingfield Road, Roehampton.

A forensic officer arrives at the scene at lunchtime today

A man, believed to be in his 30s, was found suffering serious injuries.

London Air Ambulance attended the scene but the man, understood to live in the road, was dead on arrival.

He has not yet been formally identified and his next of kin have not been informed.

Neighbours spoke of their horror this morning after they found out a man was murdered in their street.

One resident who has lived in the area for 40 years said: “It all started at about 8pm. We heard shouting but we don’t know if it had anything to do with that or not. Then my neighbour rang me and said ‘have you seen the police cordons outside?’

“The whole road was swarming with police, meat wagons – you name it they had it. It was all cordoned off.

“There were dogs, air ambulance and the police towed away residents’ cars. I must have had one hour of sleep last night.

“There must have been 30 police cars at both ends of the road. It is normally very quiet. I think the police are shocked they are never called out here.

“Everyone was shocked. Everyone was coming out of their houses. We all really know each other – it’s a strong community.

“Everyone is really friendly around here – we had a street party in the Jubilee – that’s what this street is like.”

Another resident, who didn’t want to be named, said: "It’s not nice if it happened in the street. I haven’t been told by the police what has happened. I would like to be told by the police but they haven’t said anything to us.”

Police are at the scene this morning and an area near the junction with Elmshaw Road has been cordoned off.

An alleyway off Huntingfield Road, opposite Elmshaw Road, has also been cordoned off.

Met Police have said they will carry out a post mortem in due course.

Wandsworth Guardian:

The road is expected to be closed until tomorrow

The investigation is being led by Detective Chief Inspector Charlie King.

He said: "At this early stage we are keeping an open mind about any possible motive.

"We are appealing for potential witnesses who saw anyone suspicious or any suspicious activity around the address at this time to please come forward."

A London Ambulance spokesperson said: "We were called at 8.40pm to reports of an incident in Huntingfield Road.

"We sent a single responder by car, an ambulance crew, a duty officer and London's Air Ambulance to the scene.

"Sadly, the patient was pronounced dead by the doctor from London’s Air Ambulance at the scene."
