Nurses will gather outside St George’s Hospital to protest against the Government’s refusal to increase pay for NHS staff.
The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) announced yesterday (Wednesday, May 28) nursing staff across London will back protests on Thursday, June 5, after the coalition refused to uphold a one per cent pay increase.
RCN members and health trade unions will gather outside St George’s Hospital, in Tooting, from 10am to 2pm.
There will also be protests outside St Thomas’ Hospital, in Lambeth, and University Hospital, in Lewisham.
RCN London regional director Bernell Bussue said: “Nursing staff in London are rightly angry that the Government have chosen to undervalue their work again this year.
"Many NHS staff will end up facing a four year pay freeze, at a time when the cost of living has continued to spiral upwards.”
The RCN is the voice of nursing across the UK and promotes the interest of nurses and patients as well as helping shape healthcare policy.
