The mothers of two school girls who have been missing for more than five weeks have issued a heartfelt plea, imploring the girls to come home.

Police issued an appeal last month after 15-year-old Mia Ferguson, from Brixton, and Jade Young, from Hounslow, went missing from their homes on May 4.

The pair were spotted at a chicken shop in Oval on Friday, May 9, and in Lavendar Hill, Battersea, on Saturday, May 17, at 2.30pm.

Orchid Ferguson, mother of 16-year-old Mia Ferguson from Brixton, said: “Mia, you are not in any trouble and no one is angry with you.

“I miss you, your sisters miss you and our family is not the same without you. We all want you back home safely. There is nothing that we can't sort out and together we can all work through anything. I love you, please come home."

Police initially thought they may have travelled to Manchester but have received information which suggests they may be in south London.

Jade’s mother, Nicola Tuckwell, said: “Jade, everybody loves you and everybody misses you.

"All we want is for you to be happy but we have to know that you are safe, we can fix anything. Your brothers and sisters miss you dearly. Please let us know that you are ok, we love you."

Mia is described as a light skinned black girl, 5ft 4in tall, with brown hair and of slim build. It is believed that she may now have altered her appearance with hair extensions as a market seller remembered selling her some.

Jade is described as white and 5ft 5in tall. She is now believed to have removed the blonde dip dye from her hair and re-coloured it - although it is not known which colour.

DC Sarah Hay, from the Hounslow Missing Persons Unit, said: “It has now been over a month since the girls were last seen, and both Mia and Jade’s families are very upset and worried - they just want their girls to be safe and come home.

“Their safety is our safe top priority, and we are working with colleagues in London and other force areas to trace the girls. I would urge anyone who has seen the girls, or knows of their whereabouts, to please contact police.”

Anyone who has seen Mia or Jade, or anyone who has information about their whereabouts, is asked to call Hounslow Missing Persons Unit on 020 8247 6156, or police via 101, quoting reference number: 14MIS015124 & 14MIS015163
