De Morgan Centre in West Hill, Wandsworth set to close
An art centre dedicated to the work of two prominent Victorian era artists is set to close.
Managers at The De Morgan Centre have been forced to shut the West Hill site after landlords Wandsworth Museum elected to move out, surrendering the lease.
Unable to meet the cost of the lease of the whole building, the art gallery owners have also been forced to move out, and face an uncertain future.
Chairman Paul Jackson said: "Our priorities at this time are safeguarding and maintaining the collection and its identity for the future, and guaranteeing that public access to works of William and Evelyn De Morgan continues."
The De Morgan Centre is home to works 50 oil paintings Evelyn and over 1000 ceramics by her husband potter William De Morgan.

The collection is currently relocated at a new, temporary office space whilst it seeks to find a new, permanent home.
Mr Jackson said: "We are engaged in some exciting collaborative projects, and our website provides a wealth of information about the De Morgans."
"Their work will continue to be a valuable resource for students, researchers and art enthusiasts."
Since 2002, the foundation operated in a former library building. In 2009 the work moved to its current location and sublet 25 per cent of the building from the Wandsworth Museum Company. The company are surrendering the entire lease of the building as they are moving to alternative premises.
The final opportunity for the public to view the gallery, and current exhibition Men in Pants, is on Saturday June 28, The collection will be loaned to other galleries, museums and heritage sites whilst the foundation takes time to regroup.
