A novice cyclist raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society in memory of her grandmother is taking on a 100 mile challenge in her 30th year.

Having never ridden a road bike until recently, Robin Rouwenhorst, 29, will join hundreds of professional and amateur cyclists on the Prudential RideLondon to Surrey 100 this summer.

Miss Rouwenhorst, a mortgage advisor with Halifax, is raising funds in memory of her grandmother Audrey Williams, who died in June 2012.

The Alzheimer’s Society is the Lloyds banking group’s charity of the year and the company has agreed to match the amount raised.

Miss Rouwenhorst, of Chestnut Grove, Balham, said: "I am 30 in September and I wanted to do something big.

"I have never done anything like this before.

"Getting used to the bike has been hard and getting my bearings with the London traffic."

The Prudential RideLondon to Surrey 100 on Sunday, August 10, will wind through Surrey and south London, ending in The Mall in central London.
