A gas leak at Battersea Power Station has forced a 200m hazard zone to be set up and workers evacuated.

Two fire engines from Clapham and Battersea were called to the scene just after 4pm after reports an acetylene cylinder had been ruptured during work on the site.

A rescue unit from Euston has also been called to the scene All Southern Rail services have been suspended while the situation is being dealt with and police have evacuated workers from the site.

Police were called at 3.17pm to reports of a suspicious package, but quickly ascertained that the item was a gas cylinder.

A spokesman from London Fire Brigade confirmed the cylinder had been damaged during works.

Rail tickets being accepted on Transport for London and alternative National Rail services.

All overground railway lines to and from Victoria are blocked. There is no estimate for when normal service will resume.
