Her Majesty the Queen has recognised the hard work and dedication of some of Wandsworth’s residents in her birthday honours list.
Among the newly knighted and honoured is chocolatier Chantal Coady who received an OBE after more than 30 years in chocolate making, theatre wig designer Angela Cobbin who picks up an OBE for services to the theatre and to the community in Clapham, and the Ministry of Defence’s team leader, Damian Johnson from the Tooting area.
Mr Johnson has been recognised with an OBE for services to defence. Ms Coady, of Bonnington Square in Vauxhall, said: "I am proud, thrilled and honoured to accept this on behalf of all the many people who have helped me on my journey, especially my mother Sybil, husband James, and all my chocolate colleagues.
"I believe this is the first chocolate honour."
A diverse range of industries has been recognised as part of the annual list of nominees, covering industries including tax, architecture and defence.
Salim Mitha, of Putney, is now a CBE after being recognised for services to tax policy at HM Revenue and Customs, Dr Helen Stephenson is also a CBE for her role as director at the Office of Civil Society in the Cabinet Office and Balham area resident Pauline Tambling picks up the CBE for services to education and training in the cultural sector.
Richard Card has been recognised for operational support to the armed forces and Alan Stanton, co-founder and director of Stanton Williams, will be an OBE for services to architecture.
Those receiving MBEs include Jill Fletcher, Mark Mackenzie, Hajeet Seeboruth, Laurence Smith and Marlene Price rewarded for services to charity, work within the police and involvement in the community.
Marlene Price, vice chairman of the Borough Residents’ Forum, has been awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queen’s 2014 birthday honours list.
The accolade recognises her years of service to the people of Wandsworth.
Paul Ellis, executive member for housing at Wandsworth Council, said: “This is wonderful news and thoroughly deserved. Marlene has represented her community for many years and had a great impact on local people’s lives.
“She has helped shape important changes to housing management in Wandsworth and played a key role in ensuring the council retained direct ownership of its housing stock.
"She has influenced the tenancy and lease conditions under which thousands of local people live – ensuring resident concerns are well understood. Congratulations Marlene Price BEM.”
Last year the council awarded Marlene a civic award in recognition of her tireless efforts
