As the country marks the centenary of the start of the First World War and the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings, a celebration of Armed Forces Day will take place in Battersea Park.

Free to attend, demonstrations, information stalls provided by the London Regiment, Army and Sea Cadets and the Royal British Legion, plus a funfair and live music will be on offer by the bandstand on Sunday from noon to 4.30pm.

Wandsworth is home to Army Reserve soldiers from the London Regiment based in Clapham Junction and Balham, and the Royal Marine Reserves based in Southfields.

I got to the bandstand at 1pm, expecting it to be in full swing...no....only the information stools...I expected hundreds of people, marching soldiers, cadets, marching bands..maybe I was too used to the Easter Parades the park used to host but I really thought it would be like that with hundreds of participants..I was wrong..big time..shame really because that would have been a more fitting tribute than a few information stools, a bouncy castle and a train ride that wasn't working..it's such a good cause but it was all a bit of a damp squid
