A new £475,000 children’s centre will be built on the site of a former one o’clock club.

Last year Wandsworth Council voted to close one o’clock clubs across the borough to make way for nursery places the Government said the council must provide for disadvantaged two-year-olds.

The decision sparked wide protest among users concerned they would lose vital services, and any replacements would not be free.

Now the one o’clock club in King George’s Park, Wandsworth, has been given the green light to become a new children’s centre complete with family services, drop-in stay and play services, health advice and parenting support.

The new centre will be called West Hill in the Park and will have 32 free nursery places for two-year-olds from the borough’s most disadvantaged families.
