A vacant building on the Doddington estate in Battersea will be converted into temporary accommodation for families.
Councillors approved proposals for six self-contained flats in the two storey building fronting Battersea Park Road, at a planning committee meeting on June 17.
The building, which will be made up of three four-bedroom, one three-bedroom and two-bedroom flats, will be used to house homeless families on a short-term basis.
Families will live at the building rather than in bed and breakfast or hostel accommodation until they can be offered longer term housing.
Councillor Paul Ellis, cabinet member for housing, said: "These flats will offer high quality housing for families with children who suddenly find themselves homeless through no fault of their own and urgently need a roof over their heads."
