This is the dramatic moment a woman was pulled from the River Thames after she dived in to save a puppy.

Gardener Julie Wylie, 36, jumped into the fast-flowing river after her client’s Labradoodle hopped over the wall of her Putney home and into the water.

Fortunately Ms Wylie and the pooch, who was wearing a large plastic collar, were spotted by a passing Thames Clipper river-bus on Tuesday evening.

The crew managed to keep them afloat until the Port of London Authority arrived and hauled the pair to safety.

A spokesman for the Port of London Authority said: “This successful rescue of both the woman and the dog was a great piece of teamwork on the Thames.

“Joe Wiltshire from the Thames Clipper Riverbus showed great skill  and professionalism in getting a rope to them both swiftly.

“He then worked side by side with Jim Denby and Danny Marsh from the Port of London Authority to get Julia and the dog Jess to safety on board our launch ‘Benfleet’.

“Everyone did a grand job and we were pleased to play our part.”
