A playgroup has finally reopened, almost four months later than expected, following a £120,000 revamp.

Tooting Common’s Triangle children’s centre, which offers family services and play activities, was reopened on Tuesday, July 22.

The club closed in November so the council could carry out the refurbishment and install flood defences after it was plagued by flooding.

Parents were told the playgroup would re-open in April but the council was criticised by Tooting MP, Sadiq Khan, and residents when it failed to do so. The council said rain during the winter caused the delays.

The popular children’s centre, described as a lifeline for parents, offers a full range of free children’s and family services including play sessions for toddlers, health advice and parenting support.

Centre will be working with the nearby Fayland children’s centre in order to offer a wider range of family services including speech and language support and advice on healthy eating.

Councillor Kathy Tracey, the council’s cabinet member for education and children’s services, said: "This refurbished children’s centre will offer local mums and dads a really fantastic range of services."
