A play born above a Battersea pub is heading to the West End in September.

Chris Urch’s Land of Our Fathers depicts the experiences of a group of Welsh miners trapped in a coalmine for two weeks in 1979.

The play will move to Trafalgar Studio 2 from September 3 to October 4.

The History Boys headmaster, Clive Merrison, Pride’s Kyle Rees and Accolade’s Patrick Brennan will return to their roles in the play.

New stars joining the West End cast include Taylor Jay-Davis (Great Expectations), Joshua Price (Tribe) and Robert East (Henry IV Parts 1 & 2).

With a star-studded cast, playwright Chris looks set to follow a string of first time writers who have made it big through staging plays at Theatre503.

The cast have been doing anything they can to get into character, including going down mines in south Wales, singing Welsh lullabies and even a Sex Pistols song in Welsh harmonies.
