A stall was set up in Tooting Broadway yesterday with a petition to stop the war in Gaza.

By the end of the day 45 petition sheets were filled with signatures- all from people calling on the Prime Minister David Cameron to push Israel to stop bombing the region.

The stall was set up by Colin Crilly, Ray Silk and Pat Sheerin from the Wandsworth Stop the War Coalition.

They were joined by members of the Lambeth & Wandsworth Palestine Solidarity Campaign.

Mr Crilly said: “Around 20 people volunteered and we had some great interaction with the public.

“It may be happening elsewhere in the world, but this is something a lot of people care very deeply about.

“Some people even stopped in the street and wanted to help out."

The stall was based outside TK Maxx in Tooting High Street.

Similar events took place up and down the country.

Why were they not campaigning for Hamas to stop firing rockets at Israel ?
Over 3,000 rockets so far, terrorising Israeli civilians.

That is why Israel is bombing Gaza, not to kill civilians, but to stop the rockets.

Israel has a moral & legal right to self-defence. The conflict kicked off with hamas firing rockets. Hamas refused numerous cease-fires, because they are murderous terrorists, committed to destroying Israel, & imposing their racist apartheid ideology, persecuting gays & banning trade unions.

Our aid money has been used by hamas to buy rockets from Iran & Syria, & build tunnels from Gaza into Israel so they can kill more Israelis. The cost of these tunnels & rockets is £ millions, money meant to go to help Palestinians.

This conflict kicked off when Israel invaded and occupied Gaza in 1956-57 and again in 1967. Even when Israel "disengaged" from Gaza in 2005 it did not functionally end the occupation. There is no independent access to Gaza by plane or boat. Of course, Israel says that the reason for this is that it needs to prevent weapons being brought into Gaza, but it is a vicious circle.

I agree with you that we should not be sending aid to Gaza. Instead, the Israeli taxpayer, which is responsible for sending refugees into Gaza in 1948 and is responsible for economic deprivation since 1967, should be required to finance the reconstruction of Gaza. And if Israel does not pay then its supporters here in the U.K. should have the tax imposed upon them.

Your knowledge of history is a joke !

Gaza was part of Egypt until 1967, when Egypt launched a war to destroy Israel & lost. Never any mention then of it being occupied.
Israel has no territorial claim on Gaza, it is hamas that wants to destroy Israel , hence their rockets & tunnels used for invading Israel.

Unfortunately for you Israel is good at defending itself.

The majority of British people support Israel . We have trade worth £ billions. Earlier this year both Cameron & Milliband visited Israel.

Peace will come when Hamas starts loving Palestinian child, & stops using them as human shields for their rockets being fired at Israeli kids.
