Plans to transform the world-famous Court One at the All England Club in Wimbledon are expected to be submitted to Merton Council this month.

The move comes as the first deadline for charities in Merton and Wandsworth to apply for up to £5,000 in charitable funding from the club approaches.

The All England Club is hoping to put in a formal planning application to the council by the end of August detailing plans to transform the court by adding two tiers of 900 seats plus improved hospitality facilities.

A new fixed and retractable roof like the one on Centre Court could be built if it is approved by the council’s planning committee.

The master plan features ideas to create a two-level public plaza in place of court 19, wider and more comfortable seating on Court One, improved on-site concessions and catering areas and a new large television screen for spectators on Murray Mound.

The Wimbledon Foundation Community Fund is a new initiative in association with the Wimbledon Foundation, a charitable arm of the All England Club.

It aims to distribute £100,000 in the coming year to organisations which apply for the funding boost.

There are a number of criteria, which can be viewed on the website.

Applications should be made by Friday, September 5.
