A Mitcham man accused of killing a father on a basketball court has appeared before judges at the Old Bailey.

Simeon Scott-Wasey, 24, is accused of stabbing to death 25-year-old Nicholas Stewart near the victim’s home in the Henry Prince estate in Earlsfield.

Flowers now line the basketball court along with bottles of alcohol, candles and an Arsenal shirt at the spot where it happened.

Scott-Wasey, of Downe Road, Mitcham, appeared via video link at the Old Bailey from Wandsworth prison on Tuesday, August 19, and spoke only to confirm his name.

The prosecutor Jonathan Rees QC told the Old Bailey on Tuesday, August 19, that other people could stand trial over the killing, which could have been witnessed by up to 20 people, including children.

Judge Timothy Pontius remanded Scott-Wasey in custody until a plea and case management hearing on November 11 this year.

Emergency services found the victim with serious stab wounds just before 9pm on Wednesday, August 13, at the court where he was pronounced dead.

A post-mortem examination at St George’s Hospital shortly afterwards said he died from stab wounds to the leg and chest.

Mr Stewart, a decorator with a five-year-old daughter, is believed to have been attacked by a group of men.
