Battersea Dogs and Cats Home’s saddest dog has become its happiest, after finding a new home.

Geoff and Sylvia Shoesmith from Chelmsford, Essex, offered Bless her forever home after seeing her in the Daily Mail earlier this month.

The couple initially thought Battersea would be inundated with calls about her, so did not get in touch, but after seeing her on This Morning, picked up the phone.

Mr Shoesmith said: "She’s fantastic, I can’t fault her.

"She’s got that sort of face that never gives much away - but as soon as you put your coat on and it’s time to take her out, then she positively bounces."

Now known as Bess, the Shoesmiths and their new pooch will visit Battersea Dogs and Cats Home’s 20th annual reunion in Battersea Park on Sunday, September 7.

Owners and their dogs are invited to attend the free event where they can splash around in paddling pools, race through agility courses and sniff around pet stalls.

For their human counterparts, there will be food stalls, a tea party and a children’s activity area.

Celebrities including Dame Jacqueline Wilson, fashion designer Julien Macdonald and Holby City’s Jules Knight will all attend.
