A plot of land, once set to become a ‘phallic eyesore’ of a building, is up for sale.

This year the five-storey Heliport House, in Lombard Road, Battersea, was granted planning permission for a 19-storey tower with 14 flats. Residents were outraged, dubbed it a phallic-looking eyesore and said the area was overrun with luxury towers.

Now the site is up for sale and people are concerned about the current status of the site. Battersea resident Evan Zaranis said: "What the future plans are for the one who buys the property we don’t know.

"It is not a nice building. We don’t object to high-rise buildings like the US Embassy - that’s in an open space and all the buildings are high-rise. But here it’s not mixed with another.

"We feel that local residents should be informed as to the latest development.

"Local residents should continue canvassing their local elected representatives to distance themselves from the developers and take the residents’, ie those that voted for them, wishes into consideration."

A brochure, by estate agents Knight Frank, said the building was currently office accommodation on the first three floors and a penthouse apartment on the fourth floor - which has a sauna and is accessed by a glass lift.

Knight Frank is seeking unconditional offers only. Bids must be submitted before noon, Thursday, September 25, and cannot be made on reference to other bids on the site.

NOTE - When we originally published this article we incorrectly stated the landlord had gone into administration. In fact the building had been placed into LPA receivership, which has now been withdrawn. We apologise for any confusion or inconvenience caused.
