A community fun day celebrates its eighth birthday this month.

The Balham and Tooting Community Association (Batca) Fun Day was born to promote community cohesion in the aftermath of the 7/7 bombings when the community came together.

The event has gone from strength to strength and last year an estimated 4,000 people attended the event, in Broadwater Road, Tooting.

Attractions will include food from around the world, a clown, fairground rides, traditional sideshows, penalty shoot outs, creative arts, free NHS health checks for over 40s, craft stalls, farm animals and a fire engine.

The event, from noon to 5pm, Saturday, September 13, is jointly organised by Batca, Gatton Muslim Primary School and St Augustine’s Church. All funds raised will go towards two projects at St George’s Hospital.
