A generator pump at the refurbished Wandsworth Sainsbury’s has been keeping neighbours awake at night.
Residents who live near the large Garratt Lane store have reported being woken up by a loud whirring noise emanating from the car park.
Nicola Osmond-Evans, 39, has lived in the area, behind the supermarket, for ten years.
Mrs Osmond-Evans, who works in PR, said yesterday morning: "It is still going on. It woke me up in the middle of the night and it has happened at least twice.
"It started and you think it’s probably just an accident and it won’t happen again.
"It happened a month ago. I went round and complained to someone in the store.
"I have been awake since 6am with it. It’s just not acceptable because I know the whole street has been woken up by it.
"It is since they got planning permission from the council to redevelop the site."
A spokesman for Sainsbury’s said they had been investigating the noise and had found an issue with the diesel generator pump which is intermittently turning off and on.
He said: "We are aware of a small problem with the generator pump and have put in place measures to fix the issue. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to local residents."
