A man was stabbed in broad daylight today in a Battersea street.

The man, in his 30s, was reportedly stabbed in the chest and back in Holgate Avenue at 12.20pm.

Wandsworth Times:

The air ambulance landed in nearby York Gardens and a doctor from the helicopter accompanied the man, by road, to west-London hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

A spokesman for London Ambulance Service said: “Police were already on the scene.

“We were called to reports of a stabbing on Holgate Avenue.

“We treated a man reported to be in his 30s. He was taken as a priority to hospital, escorted by a doctor from London’s Air Ambulance.”

Full-time mum Becky Emler, 37, lives near the scene and said: “Someone was having an argument in York Gardens.

“I heard all the screaming and shouting. People were running out of the Anchor pub and people in the 24/hr shop called the police.

Wandsworth Times:

“It is normally really, really safe. Normally it is all peace and quiet. Fortunately my son was at school.”

The stabbing took place not far from Clapham Junction station

A second man was also found with stab wounds. He has been arrested for attempted murder and taken to a separate west London hospital for treatment. He is in a stable condition.

Inquiries continue to establish the circumstances of the incident and officers retain an open mind regards any motive at this early stage.
