Two young men have been found guilty of forcing a teenage boy to travel by train to a cash machine and then stealing money and an iPhone.

The victim, 17, was taken from Epsom station to a cashpoint at Clapham Junction station then back to Ewell West during the evening rush hour on Friday, February 28.

The trial of a 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, and Christopher Amirjani, 23, of no fixed abode, ended last Thursday at Blackfriars Crown Court.

The pair were convicted of false imprisonment and robbery of £80 in cash. Amirjani was also convicted of robbery of an iPhone.

A third man, Marcus Easy, has previously pleaded guilty to robbery of an iPhone and £80 while a charge of false imprisonment lies on file.

Easy was 17 years old at the time of the crime but reporting restrictions have now been lifted because he turned 18 in June. All three men will be sentenced on Thursday, October 9.

Last week the court heard that the trio approached a 17-year-old boy at Epsom station and took him to the cashpoint on the footbridge at Clapham Junction Station.

Prosecutor Warwick Tatford said: "He was forced to take out £80 and was taken on a train back the other way. He was kept prisoner by the three men for the best part of an hour."

Mr Tatford said the trio then shared out the "pretty pathetic proceeds" from the robbery at Ewell West station.

He said Easy was the "main man" and flashed a handle, which the victim assumed was a knife, on the train.

The court heard that the 17-year-old, who cannot be named, sent a sent a text message from Epsom station saying: "We have kidnapped some boy lol. He’s taking us to a cashpoint in Clapham Junction."

His girlfriend replied by text message: "Who? Lol. How much dough has he got? You’re looking to get nicked."

Amirjani had a previous conviction for robbery.
