Tooting MP Sadiq Khan has joined the fight to to prevent an eight-bay car wash opening in Tooting High Street.
Members of the Tooting History Society and councillors have opposed the plans for the car wash on the site of Tooting Constitutional Club.
There are concerns the plans only include one access point, in Woodbury Street.
Mr Khan has urged Wandsworth Council to put the concerns of residents first.
It is part of the MP’s larger campaign to Save Our High Streets, which has included campaigns to save the Wheatsheaf pub in Tooting Bec from developers.
Residents have until September 23 to object by emailing planningapplications@wandsworth.gov.uk with the reference 2014/4579.
