Proposals to build a new station in West London could link the Clapham Junction and Richmond branches of the Overground to HS2 and Crossrail.

Transport for London (TfL) have produced three options to build a new London Overground station, at Old Oak Common, in order to link it to Crossrail and the proposed HS2 services.

TfL launched a consultation on Monday, September 22. The plans could see Old Oak Common become London’s largest transport hub, used by up to 250,000 passengers.

Under TfL’s first option the Overground’s Clapham Junction to Stratford services would be diverted from their current alignment to run on a new viaduct along the northern edge of Wormwood Scrubs allowing both Richmond and Clapham Junction services to Stratford to call at the same station.

Trains from the station would run approximately every 5 minutes during the peak, in each direction.

Option A

Wandsworth Times:

This option would increase journey times for Clapham Junction through-passengers by four to five minutes.

The second option would see Overground services diverted, using existing freight lines, into the new station along the Richmond to Stratford route.

Clapham Junction to Stratford services would bypass the new station completely and four trains an hour would run between Clapham Junction and Old Oak.

Option B

Wandsworth Times:

The third option would involve the creation of two new stations, one on the Overground’s Richmond to Stratford route and another on the Clapham Junction to Stratford route.

Transport bosses predict it would increase journey times for Clapham Junction through-passengers by two to three minutes.

Option C

Wandsworth Times:

All three options would increase journey times for Richmond to Stratford passengers by two to three minutes.

Wandsworth Times:

Richard Tracey, the London Assembly member for Wandsworth and Merton, said: “This seems an ingenious idea unlocking much transport potential.

"I am always in favour of better overall transport links and railways play a key part in this.

"So giving better access to Wandsworth and Merton travellers by linking London Overground servivces from Clapham Junction with north London connections and the potential HS2 makes very good sense.”
