The council is warning drivers that parking enforcement rules apply as normal while wardens strike today.

Members of the GMB union have walked out this morning, and plan to do so again tomorrow, due to a pay dispute with contractor Mouchel which provides Wandsworth’s parking services.

A council spokesman said: “The council has now confirmed that civil enforcement officers will be on patrol and drivers will be issued with tickets if they break the rules.”

Mouchel’s parking attendants are based in Balham and Wandsworth Town.

They are calling for a living wage of £10 an hour, an increase from the current £7.50, as well as union rights.

Sadiq Khan, Labour MP for Tooting, said "Companies like Mouchel should be paying enough so that people don't have to work two jobs, and it should be paying enough to keep families out of poverty.

"Wages have completely failed to keep pace with the cost-of living in London."
