A 16-year-old boy has pleaded guilty to the murder of a Balham schoolboy.
The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted stabbing Alim Uddin, 17, a Chestnut Grove Academy student, seven times during a row over a bicycle.
He attacked Mr Uddin at the Tiklford block of flats in Brixton, on May 4, this year.
The Old Bailey heard Mr Uddin had gone to meet him to ask for £90 back - which he had paid him for a bike.
A post-mortem examination found Mr Uddin was stabbed four times in his chest, once in the lower back, shoulder and thigh.
His headteacher Margaret Peacock described him as a bright young man with a promising future.
She said: "He was ambitious and very keen to build a successful life for himself. In school he was a popular, engaging student who went out of his way to help others and was a volunteer reader with younger students."
The boy has been remanded in custody to be sentenced on November 12.
