A public meeting is being held tomorrow night by Formula E organisers who want to bring their racing cars to Battersea Park.

The council has already supported the idea in principle but a final decision is not expected until early December.

The public have been divided over the plans and concerns have been raised by a charity.

A letter by Frances Radcliffe OBE, the chairman of the Friends of Battersea Park, strongly objected to the Formula E proposal for June, 2015, and for four further years under a five-year contract.

The council’s environment spokesman Councillor Jonathan Cook said: "We are certainly keen to support advances in this important eco-technology and give our support to the British motor racing industry which employs many thousands of people in the engineering sector.

"But above all else, we are quite clear that we will not support any proposal that causes harm or damage to the fabric of the park and its important historical and heritage features."

The meeting is being held 7pm, Thursday, November 6, at All Saints Church in Prince of Wales Drive, Battersea.
