An Earlsfield theatre company is embarking on a year long project to transform its premises.
Tara Arts want to turn their base into a national hub for the production and presentation of cross-cultural theatre, as well as offering a welcoming location for the local community.
The new building is due to open in December 2015 and will feature a new theatre centre, an ‘earth stage’ inspired by outdoor performances in India and a new space for community groups.
A ‘ground breaking’ celebration was held on Monday with MP Sadiq Khan, Wandsworth’s deputy mayor Richard Field and council leader Ravi Govindia.
During the closure period Tara Arts will focus on touring and the venue will reopen in December 2015 to host Tara Arts’ annual pantomime.
