Cooks are urged to pay extra attention in the kitchen during the festive season to avoid a visit from firefighters.
A resident of Egbury House, Roehampton, received a surprise visit from a Wandsworth fire station crew shortly after midnight on Tuesday, December 23, after putting the radio on and forgetting about his cooking.
A Wandsworth firefighter said the gentleman did not have a smoke alarm in his home, on the seventh floor of the block, and did not noticed any smoke because he had shut the door to his lounge.
The crew had to force entry to the home on arrival but the property sustained no damage.
Firefighters spent half an hour at the address and fitted the home with a smoke alarm.
