Sixty eight students from 14 secondary schools in Wandsworth received the Jack Petchey Foundation (JPF) achievement award.
The awards were handed out at the annual ceremony in Wandsworth Civic Suite on Wednesday, January 21.
They enable schools and youth organisations to celebrate the achievements of their young people and as receive additional funding.
Councillor Stuart Thom, Mayor of Wandsworth, said “This is a fantastic example of rewarding young people for inspiration, diligence and achievement.
"Jack Petchey has been a wonderful source of encouragement to young people to succeed indeed.”
Tess Tollast, 15, is from Saint Cecilia’s in Southfields. JPF coordinator Colin Quinton said: “Tess is always working hard, pushing and encouraging her group and friends in the class. She’s just a pleasure to teach.”
John Okafor, 15, from St John Bosco College, was described as an outstanding student both in school and out. He has also been selected for the Harlequins Academy.
Michael Onyejiaka, 15, from Garratt Park School, Earlsfield, which caters for children with mild learning difficulties. JPF coordinator Wendy Langhorne said: "Michael is a positive role model in his tutor group and in the school as a whole.”
Salimata Ouattara, 16, from Burntwood School, Tooting. Nick Bull, JPF coordinator, said “Despite joining the school with very limited English, Salimata has achieved great success."
