A former stray dog from New Malden might be the star of a new TV advert.

Helen Bannan and her Staffordshire bull terrier cross Honey have been chosen as finalists from hundreds of hopefuls to represent animal charity Blue Cross.

The nationwide search for a pet began last year with a series of tough ‘pawditions’ and Honey is one of just four talented pets in the finals.

Honey has come a long way since she was rescued as a two year old.

She was extremely skinny and nervous when Bannan took her in and started to teach her tricks but now loves the attention she is receiving as part of the competition.

Helen and Honey hope to be the stars of the new Blue Cross TV advert

Bannan said: “Honey and I have so much fun together learning new tricks and she loves an audience so I thought the Pawditions were the perfect setting for her.

“We both had a lovely time at Blue Cross and Honey enjoyed all the attention she got.”

The public has until February 9 to vote for their favourite animal. To vote go to bluecross.org.uk/pawditions
