A prolific burglar was sentenced to three years' behind bars after detectives found his DNA at a Twickenham home.

Duane Harding, from Headley Drive, New Addington, targeted properties across London from April 2012 to April 2013.

The 28-year-old was sentenced at Kingston Crown Court on Monday, March 2, having pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing at the same court.

He was arrested on April 23 last year after his DNA was found at a house in Brunswick Close, Twickenham, where he smashed a window to gain entry.

Harding took a high-value specialist bicycle, an iPad and a watch while the homeowner was out.

Detective Constable Jo Hinchliffe, from Richmond CID, said: "Harding would no doubt have continued his burglary spree had we not matched his DNA from the crime scene. Residents of Richmond can be assured we will do all we can to investigate burglary offences and bring those who commit these crimes before the courts."

He was also charged for two other burglaries in other London boroughs - one in Wandsworth and one in Hounslow.

Harding kicked a locked door off its hinges in Jansen Walk, Wandsworth, on February 22 last year while the occupant was at work and stole a bicycle, computer equipment, cash and a mobile phone.

He had previously stolen a laptop, a camcorder, a camera and a Nintendo Wii from a house in St Stephen's Road in Hounslow on April 23, 2012.
