The Thames is used to rowers from Oxford and Cambridge fiercely racing for a coveted title, but this year a race with a difference also take place.

Ahead of this year's famous boat race, 250 miniature lifeboats will set sail from Barnes Bridge to Chiswick Bridge in the RNLI alternative boat race.

Each participant who has paid for a boat will have a chance to name an RNLI lifeboat, with the winner being presented with an official trophy and an invite to an exclusive naming ceremony later in the year.

Now in its second year, the race on Friday, April 10, aims to raise awareness of the RNLI's 24/7 rescue role on the Thames and all funds will go to the RNLI's lifesaving work.

The race starts at Barnes Bridge at 5.30pm and entertainment will be laid on at the Ship, Thames Bank, Mortlake, from 3pm.
