Thousands of cyclists will pass through south London and Surrey as the RideLondon event returns for a third year.

The 200km ride, on Sunday, August 2, will attract more than 25,000 amateur cyclists and raise money for charity while taking in the sites of London and the picturesque beauty of the Royal Parks and Surrey Hills.

The Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 starts at 6am in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park before finishing on the Mall in front of Buckingham Palace.

As in previous years, cyclists will pass through Bushy Park, Richmond Park, East Sheen and over Chiswick Bridge, along with parts of the Kingston, Elmbridge and Wandsworth.

Nicholas Davies, from Kingston Cycling Campaign, said: “Ride-London inspires people who may never have cycled outside Richmond or Bushy Park to get on a bike.

“We usually run an event the day before the main race for families starting in Kingston Market Place and running all the way to Hyde Park.

“It is great because it gives children the chance to ride on roads in London that they will never have been on.”

The RideLondon-Surrey Classic event begins at Horse Guards Parade at 1.30pm.
