A prisoner is due to appear in court this morning charged with murdering a fellow inmate at HMP Wandsworth.
Taras Nykolyn, 46, was charged yesterday over the death of Wadid Barsoum, 66. He will appear at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court today.
Police were called to the prison, which houses some 1,800 inmates, shortly after 7.30am on Monday. Barsoum was pronounced dead at hospital later that morning.
His death is one of a series to hit the 164-year-old category B prison recently.
In February this year coroner Dr Fiona Wilcox said she would raise her concerns over deaths in custody with police after 11 people died in 2014.
She was speaking at a pre-inquest hearing into the death of rapist Robert Richards, who is thought to have complained of bullying in C wing.
