A new public park to be built as part of the Battersea Power Station redevelopment has been unveiled to the public.

Images of the riverside park, designed by design consultancy LDA Design, were revealed last week.

The six-acre space, due to open in phases from 2017, will feature large event lawns, terraced river gardens and play spaces.

Chief Executive of Battersea Power Station Development Company Rob Tincknell said "We are excited to see the plans for this fantastic riverside park progress.

"The new designs offer space for wide ranging activities throughout the year alongside London’s prized asset, the River Thames."

Designed with the local community in mind, and intended to provide a place that can be enjoyed by all, the park will accommodate day-to-day recreation and riverside promenading, as well as a number of theatre and large festival-style events, similar to the successful Totally Thames Festival of 2014.

LDA Design board director Robert Aspland said the development would bring the site to life.

He said "The park will play a critical part in place-making, serving as a key backdrop for the iconic power station, and hosting everything from weekly markets that are known worldwide and outdoor cinema screenings, to more informal picnics and lazy Sunday afternoons."
