Students are developing designs for a new pedestrian cycle bridge crossing the Thames between Nine Elms and Pimlico.

Eight schools across Wandsworth and Lambeth have started designing their own take on the cycle bridge, a project supported by local architects DPQ and Alldesign, and inspired by the international bridge design contest currently being run by Wandsworth Council.

Year 9 students from Harris Academy are also competing in the secondary school category, with both sets of winners to take home vouchers and get opportunities to gain work experience from leading design practices.

Council leader Councillor Ravi Govindia, who is also a member of the contest jury panel, said: "This project has been met with extraordinary enthusiasm. The challenge is firing young imaginations and I’m eager to see their ideas take shape on the page."
