A market stallholder at New Covent Garden Market has been jailed for handling stolen goods.

Fatah Dana, 43, of Holland Road, Holland Park, was found guilty of 11 counts of handling stolen goods after his arrest at the market on March 24, 2014, as part of Operation Agora.

His stall was searched and stolen phones were found. More than 30 mobile phones and tablets worth about £3,000 and £1,700 in cash were seized. Out of the phones and tablets, 11 were found to be stolen.

Dana was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment on each count, to run concurrently, on Thursday, June 25, at Kingston Crown Court.

Inspector James Ellis, from Battersea Safer Neighbourhoods team, said: "A lot of hard work went into this operation and some 15 months later we have secured a fantastic result.

"This sentencing is the result of some great work by my constables, many of whom, including the officer in the case, PC Ben Perkins - who really persevered with this job - were young probationers and they are a credit to the Met.

"I hope this conviction goes some way to saying that crime definitely does not pay."
