A Wandsworth school, which was threatened by cuts five years ago, has been shortlisted for an architecture prize.
New buildings at Burntwood School, in Burntwood Lane, were built in 2013 at a cost of £40.9m as one of the final projects developed under the Building Schools for the Future scheme.
A scheme axed by the coalition Government.
Designed by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris architects, the buildings have been shortlisted for the 2015 Stirling Prize.
MP for Tooting Sadiq Khan said he worked closely with headteacher Helen Dorfman to keep the school’s funding and was delighted the project was eventually allowed to go ahead.
He said: “Burntwood students and staff now have the fantastic state-of-the-art facilities they deserve and can be proud of.
“It’s also great to see this impressive project receiving such prestigious recognition.”
