Thieves have made off with £72,000 worth of jewellery left in a parked car in Sunbury.

The haul - which includes an antique white gold Rolex studded with diamonds, a gold and diamond bracelet worth £2,200, a £750 white gold and black diamond ring and a sapphire and diamond bracelet - was lifted from the car parked at the corner of Saxonbury Avenue and The Avenue on Tuesday.

Detective Constable Berenice Moore said the thieves got in through an unlocked back door sometime between 12.30pm and 12.45pm.

They stole a glass-faced jewellery box containing £72,000 worth jewellery before making off along Saxonbury Avenue.

The thieves dropped an antique porcelain doll as they made their getaway, which smashed on the road.

D Con Moore said police wanted to speak to any witnesses or anyone who is presented with jewellery items of high value.

Anyone with information should contact D Con Moore at Staines CID on 0845 125 2222.

Im sorry, but it is pretty stupid to leave such valuables in your car for a start and then to leave a door open! It almost sounds as if it was done on purpose because u'd have to be really stupid to do that.
